Teaching Interests
Jacob S. Rugh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Brigham Young University. His research focuses on race, housing segregation, and immigration. Dr. Rugh received a dual Master’s degree in Public Affairs & Urban and Regional Planning and a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from Princeton University. His work has been featured in The Atlantic and The New York Times and cited in US Supreme Court briefs and federal cases halting immigrant deportations. He is the winner of the Law & Society Association’s John Hope Franklin Prize for the best article on racism and the law. His latest co-authored article, “Making Space Behind the Veil: Black Agency within a Predominantly White Religion,” was published in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion. Dr. Rugh was raised on Chicago’s South Side, where he attended public schools, Ray Elementary and Kenwood Academy High School.
